Rector, Professor Geray Geraybeyli: Our youth should study the founder of today's Azerbaijan in depth

A ceremony dedicated to the 102nd anniversary of the birth of the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev was held at the Azerbaijan Medical University. Opening the ceremony, the rector of the university, Professor Geray Geraybeyli, said that events dedicated to the birthday of the National Leader are being organized in all parts of our country and abroad.

The rector emphasized that the services of the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev to the people of Azerbaijan are undeniable: “Previously, the university’s teaching staff would participate in events dedicated to the birth of H. Aliyev, the anniversary of his death, and other historical events at the Medical University. However, last year we decided to organize most of these events for students. It is known that the teaching staff is an older generation, they have seen a certain part of this history themselves and have been living witnesses. However, our students and young people learn historical events from us. No matter how many books are written, films are made, and history lessons are held in schools, it is not enough. Today, young people living a quiet, prosperous life should be aware of the difficult conditions our people faced in the past. They should know that Azerbaijan has not always been known as a developed and influential country in all fields as it is today. A historical figure - the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev - played a great role in the establishment of our state and in our country reaching its current level.”

During his speech, Professor G. Garaybeyli talked about the fact that the National Leader was one of the writers of the history of modern Azerbaijan and the difficulties he faced in preserving our independence: “When the Great Leader came to power, there were moments when Azerbaijan could have lost its independence as a state. However, as a result of his far-sighted policy, he removed all obstacles and laid the foundation for Azerbaijan to develop day by day. The dreams of the forces that wanted to divide our country were dashed.

Therefore, our young people studying at the Medical University or other universities should study these glorious pages of our history and know that there is a creator of today's Azerbaijan. He is a phenomenal personality, a great political leader, and in the true sense of the word, the savior of the Azerbaijani people, the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev. It is a great happiness that the foundation and ideas he laid are successfully implemented today by his worthy successors, Mr. President Ilham Aliyev and First Vice President Mehriban Aliyeva.”

Then, Professor Dilara Seyidzadeh, who was an assistant to President Heydar Aliyev and worked as the head of the Presidential Secretariat for many years, spoke. Dilara khanum spoke about her numerous memories of the Great Leader and expressed with examples how she was connected to his people, nation, language, religion, and culture: “I have always participated in his domestic and foreign trips. He was closely interested in the social welfare of the population in the regions. He instructed me to get acquainted with the complaints and inform him. The most painful part was the loss of our lands and the refugee problem. He had maps of Azerbaijan prepared in various sizes. During his foreign trips, he explained on the map in his meetings that we were right and the Armenians were wrong. In general, world leaders were amazed by his rich knowledge and extensive awareness. Sometimes it even happened that they heard some information about their countries that they did not know from the Great Leader.”

Professor D. Seyidzadeh gave several examples of such cases. He said that during the visit to Austria, those who attended the meeting, including the President of Austria, listened to the Great Leader's speech with admiration: "During the conversation, the Great Leader gave extensive information about the Austrian composer Johann Strauss. He spoke about the film made about him, about the events taking place in the film. Everyone was surprised, and the President of Austria said that he had never watched such a film.

Or, during his visit to Uzbekistan, they were amazed by what he said about this country. During his speech, the President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov said that the Azerbaijani people are happy because they have a brilliant leader like Heydar Aliyev. There are many such examples."

Dilara Khanum's memories were met with interest by the participants, and the event ended in a good mood.

Leading experts invited from Azerbaijan, the CIS and the Republic of Turkey participated in the "New Methods in the Diagnosis and Treatment of Surgical Diseases" International Conference. Rector, Professor Geray Geraybeyli: The establishment of AMU 95 years ago was an important turning point in the development of healthcare and medical education in our country

On May 6, the opening ceremony of the Medical Festival dedicated to the 95th anniversary of the Azerbaijan Medical University and the 102nd anniversary of the birth of the National Leader Heydar Aliyev was held. The festival, which was attended by scientists from Turkey, Uzbekistan and Belarus, and representatives of the medical community, was dedicated to the discussion of current scientific topics.

The participants of the event first laid flowers in front of the bust of the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev and the monument erected in memory of the martyred doctors who gave their lives for the sovereignty of our country and the freedom of our lands. Then the guests visited the exhibition and startup corner of the Medical Festival.

Delivering an opening speech at the ceremony, the rector of Azerbaijan Medical University, Professor Geray Geraybeyli assessed the establishment of the university 95 years ago as an important turning point in the history of the development of healthcare and medical education in our country. The rector noted that the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev paid great attention and care to science, education, and especially the development of the medical field, and considered the development of the Azerbaijan Medical University to be a strategically important issue: "The National Leader visited the Azerbaijan Medical University many times both before and during the restoration of state independence. President Ilham Aliyev, a loyal follower of the ideas of the great Heydar Aliyev, and First Vice-President Mehriban Aliyeva, met with the students and youth of our university, professors and teaching staff three times, and also participated in the groundbreaking and opening ceremonies of the clinics they donated to our people under the AMU."

Professor G. Garaybeyli spoke about the activities and achievements of AMU in the modern era: “Currently, the AMU staff, which has more than 1,500 employees, includes academicians, corresponding members of the National Academy of Sciences, and honored scientists. Approximately 7,500 students study at the university, of which about 3,000 are foreign students from 45 countries. Azerbaijan Medical University is leading among higher education institutions in the country in terms of the number of foreign students. This indicator is also an indicator of the growing prestige and international relations of Azerbaijan Medical University in the world academic family. At the same time, today, AMU graduates work as professional doctors and scientists all over the world, representing our country with dignity.”

The rector noted that currently, Azerbaijan Medical University is trying to take a high position in such prestigious international platforms as “EduRank” and “H-index Azerbaijan”. Strengthening ties with both local and foreign universities, AMU cooperates with more than 25 countries and more than 110 universities and scientific organizations. Student and teacher exchanges are successfully implemented through various international programs. The reforms carried out in recent years have served to improve the quality and digitalization of education, expand international cooperation, and obtain international accreditation of educational programs. AMU has also intensified its work towards obtaining the status of a “Research University”, improving infrastructure and management, and expanding startup initiatives.

Professor Garay Garaybeyli stated that the dedicated work of the entire staff, including teachers, researchers, and students, is behind the mentioned successes: “As the AMU family, we are determined to provide our healthcare system with valuable specialists in the future, strengthen our position in the international academic environment, and contribute to the development of science. It is a great honor and responsibility for us to walk this honorable path together with you.”

At the end of his speech, Rector G.Geraybeyli congratulated everyone on the anniversary and wished the festival participants fruitful discussions and scientific achievements.

At the opening ceremony of the Medical Festival, the President of ANAS, Academician Isa Habibbeyli, Rector of the Baku Branch of the First Moscow State Medical University named after I.M. Sechenov, Professor Aziz Aliyev, Rector of Nakhchivan State University, Associate Professor Elbrus Isayev, Rector of the Turkish University of Health Sciences, Professor Kemaleddin Aydin, Director of the Azerbaijan State Institute of Advanced Training of Doctors named after A. Aliyev, Professor Nazim Gasimov, Rector of Samarkand State Medical University, Professor Jasur Rzayev, Rector of the Belarusian State Medical University Sergey Rubnikovich and Rector of Bukhara State Medical University, Professor Shohrat Tashayev also delivered congratulatory speeches and wished success to the work of the congress.

During the event, AMU Rector, Professor Geray Geraybeyli was presented with a diploma of Honorary Professor of Samarkand State Medical University and other commemorative gifts.
